Michigan marked Europe Day at the State Capitol in Lansing on Thursday, May 8. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, along with several State Senators and Representatives who have strong ties to Europe, were on hand. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of peace and cooperation, which are central themes of the EU. In her proclamation, Gov. Whitmer noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of Europe Day, stating that it commemorates “the historic Schuman Declaration of May 9, 1950,which laid the foundation for lasting peace, unity, and cooperation in Europe.” She also noted that Michigan goods exported to EU member states totaled $5.8 billion in 2024.
